Why Keurig mini descale light stays on?

If you’re like most Keurig users, you probably don’t think much about descaling your coffee maker until the dreaded descale light comes on. Descaling is an important part of maintaining your Keurig, and if you ignore the descale light, your coffee maker will eventually stop working.

So why does the descale light stay on, even after you’ve followed the instructions to descale your Keurig? There are a few possible reasons:

  • You didn’t use enough descaling solution. When you’re descaling your Keurig, you need to use a full bottle of descaling solution. If you only used half a bottle, or even just a cup of vinegar, it’s not enough to properly clean the machine.
  • You didn’t let the machine run long enough. The instructions for most Keurig models say to let the machine run for at least 30 minutes with the solution in it before turning it off and letting it sit for another 30 minutes. If you didn’t do this, the machine may not have been properly cleaned.
  • You have hard water. If you have hard water, it can be difficult to completely remove all the minerals from your coffee maker. There are special solutions made for hard water that can help with this problem.
  • Your machine is old and needs to be replaced. Unfortunately, sometimes no amount of cleaning can fix an old machine that’s on its last.

The descale light should stay on solid and not blinking and the big K button should be lit. Keep hitting the K button and run the water through in a cup. Keep repeating this and the descale should eventually shut off. It took about 2 to 3 full tanks going through it for me. I guess when you descale for now on, you have to have the machine off and do the steps above with your descaling solution or vinegar. The book doesn’t tell you that, but I found this info on here and it worked for me. Another post mentioned that when the descale light comes on, you have to take some deliberate steps to let the machine know you are descaling rather than just ignoring the warning. Key points that helped me—-machine must be OFF for starters. Then, press the 8 oz and 12 oz buttons until the K light and Descale light starts blinking. Note that the Power button will NOT be lit at this point. Press the K button to run a cup os your descaling solution through the system–after you have put a collection cup in place.. Every press of the K button will run another cup of cleaner thru the system. When you are satisfied with the cleaning, rinse the coffee maker with several cups of clean water and unplug it. When you plug it back in, there should be no desale warning and the coffee maker should work great. Thank you Just-Jenn225 for providing essential information that Keurig chose to leave out of the book….Rerunning hot water-vinegar thru the system repeatedly eventually caused the thermal overload to trip and the whole machine just went dead.. That’s another whole story cover in other post on line. The overload device is deep inside the coffee maker and you have to take it apart to get there. On-line videos really helped so if you need to take this step, check on line for sure…..Good luck!!! [/et_pb_testimonial] [/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][/et_pb_section]
